MICROANALYTICAL’s Covid Detection System an AI based software to detect cases of Noval Corona-virus.

The new Corona-virus (COVID-19) is an acute deadly disease . COVID-19 outbreak has been of great concern to the health community because no effective cure has been discovered. Generally, healthy people can be infected through breath contact, hand contact, or mucous contact with people carrying COVID-19.

Therefore, our team at MICROANALYTICAL has developed an Artificial Intelligence System which takes the lungs X-Ray images and identifies whether a person is positive or negative. Our team with the help of renowned Doctors has acquired images for model training and has developed a most accurate system to detect Covid status more accurately.

The approach of this system is very simple. From the real time perspective, take the chest x-ray image of the patient and send it to the Deep Learning Model, which in fraction of seconds can determine whether the patient is infected with COVID-19.

Methodology

Our team uses a Unique Core Technology to provide a full software to determine whether the patient is infected with COVID-19. Our team has spent a larger amount of time in building a best in class Covid Detection System.

Neural Network used for the development of COVID-19 detection system follows the classification algorithm.

Classification

Classification is a task that requires the use of machine learning algorithms that learn how to assign a class label to examples from the problem domain.

There are 2 types of Classification: 

  • Binomial: eg: email spam detection, which each email is spam (1) spam; or isn’t (0).
  • Multi-Class: recognizing handwritten characters from 0-9.

The below example will represent binomial classification:
We have 2 classes, Disease and Healthy and two features , Gene 1 and Gene 2 .The model is able to find the relationship between the feature of each data point and it’s class, and to set a boundary line between them ,so when provided with new data it can estimate the class where it belongs, given it’s features.

Classification

To resolve image related problems we have used Convolutional neural network (CNN).

Convolutional Neural Network (CNN)

A Convolutional neural network (CNN) is the foundation for most computer vision technologies. Unlike traditional multi-layer perceptron architectures, two operations generally used are “convolutions” and “pooling” to reduce an image Into it’s essential features, and these features will be used for understanding and classifying the images.
The basic building blocks of CNN are :

  • Convolutional layer
  • Activation layer
  • Pooling layer
  • Fully connected layer

There may be multiple activation and pooling layer, depending on the CNN architecture.

We have used ResNet50 architecture. ResNet , short for residual network is a classic neural network used as a backbone for many computer visions tasks. The fundamental break through with ResNet was t allowed us to train extremely deep neural network with 150+layers successfully.

Kaggle is the place where you can get a huge amount of data images. Generally every year Kaggle competitions occurs where lot of companies post data and data miners tend to find useful models for predicting and data description. We can use this dataset for our analysis and prediction, its freely available to all community for use.
Here we have taken thousands of images in which 55% images are depicting positive case and rest are healthy ones.

Visualization & Analysis

The above visualization shows the no. of deaths with respect to the median age. The people with median age greater than 40 are more likely to be in danger in comparison with younger age .

Both the above visualizations compares the people affected with COVID and the normal population according to their age brackets. Lets take age group from 21-40 they comprises of 82.65% of total population & only 0.72% are affected by COVID . On the other hand, peoples with age group of 41-60 are affected the most by COVID , their percentage tally reaches to 75.36% .
